| MEN OF THE 447th THE ULTIMATE IN COURAGE | |||

| The
447th started it's courageous activities in North Africa, Tunisia, Sicily,
Southern Italy and Corsica. This site covers the period from Nov. of 1944 to
April 1945 during operation Bingo, a strategic plan to starve out the German
troops and more important, to keep them from leaving Italy. This was to done
by Precision Bombing of the Brenner pass with 5 minute bomb runs. improve
destruction of targets but more airplanes lost. To offset the losses the 447th flew 3 plane anti flak elements dropping Phosphorus Bombs on gun emplacements The 447th had the best bombing record of the 57th Bomb Wing and were commended for this after the war. |

| One of the tragic missions of operation Bingo was the one on Feb 6th 1945 when 36 planes left the 321st base at Solenzara and only 19 returned to that base. Here is information on one of the flights of the 447th on that dismal day | |||
